Research before opinion

One answer is a starting point.
Consensus gives it context.

We measure what AI systems actually recommend. The underlying dataset determines the results, with one vote per platform and commercial relationships outside the ranking calculation.

Rankings You Can't Buy

As part of the launch of AI Marketing Consensus Index, our affiliated research team at CiteWorks Studio contacted approximately 100 of the third-party articles and websites that appeared most frequently among citations in our AI marketing research. Eight publishers responded. Seven of those eight offered some form of paid inclusion, placement, or participation.

This was a limited outreach study and should not be interpreted to mean that the same percentage applies to all publishers or citations. But the finding reinforced one of the principles behind AI Marketing Consensus Index:

You cannot purchase a ranking, recommendation, score, or position on this site.

Companies appear in our research because they are identified and recommended through the AI systems and methodology we track. If your company is not included today, the way to get included is to earn greater visibility and recommendation across the underlying AI ecosystem. Advertising supports this research, but advertising never affects our rankings, methodology, scores, inclusion decisions, or editorial conclusions.

Read the signals clearly

Three signals. Different meanings.

Recommendation

An AI platform puts a company forward as a solution to the specific question.

Mention

A company appears in the response. That alone does not mean it is recommended.

Citation

A source is referenced in an answer. Citation presence does not prove causation or endorsement.

About Mark and his role

What to know before you compare.

Do commercial relationships influence rankings?

No. Affiliate, advertising, and related-business relationships do not create recommendation votes. Related companies can rank poorly or be absent from a study.

Can the results change?

Yes. Each study is a dated snapshot. New models, prompts, and company offerings may produce different results. Historical research should be read with its original date and denominator.

What is citation architecture?

The network of first-party and third-party sources appearing around AI answers and recommendations. We distinguish source patterns from evidence of causation.
